My love for photography began at an early age when I adopted my dad's 1970s Canon 35mm film camera. That wonderful feeling of being lost in the moment has kept me hooked ever since. My keen eye for detail, empathetic nature and unique style has evolved into a strong passion and natural affinity for the portrait arts.
While working as a professional makeup artist for fashion editorials and commercial advertising, I vigorously honed my photography skills and took pictures I loved. Mostly self-taught, I drew upon the experience, knowledge and expertise of the many creative professionals I worked with and continue to stay up-to-date with professional education and business development.
In 2004, I launched Linda Mackie Photography, shooting personal lifestyle, weddings, fashion, editorial, commercial and non-profit clients. I aim to create soulful, timeless imagery for clients with a vision to make a positive impact in the community. I'm committed to creating compelling images that reveal the soul, inspire connection and leave a lasting impression. My faith in people and love for children, animals and nature ever inspire me to live and work in a more compassionate and sustainable way.
With a background in advertising, fashion editorial and the joy of motherhood, I find joy in capturing those magical fleeting moments in our everyday world creating imagery that could easily come out of a magazine. Although I often works with notable personalities and the like, I have discovered that much of my best work and happiest clients are those who don’t normally like having their picture taken (which is most of us!). The results are amazing and the most rewarding for me as a photographer with a mission to deliver joy to my clients and help them succeed in what they love doing.
My work has been published in SFU's Alumni Quarterly, Fresh Vancouver and TV Week magazines, and I was a featured photographer on ET Canada's Celebrity Makeover with Cheryl Hickey. Happy clients include notable personalities Kevin Newman of CTV, Erin Cebula of ET Canada, Robin Stickley and Anne Drewa of Global Television, non-profits UBC + VGH Hospital Foundation of BC, BC Children's Hospital and the David Suzuki Foundation, commercial clients Mountain Equipment Coop, TransLink and TELUS, and a myriad of entrepreneurs, business owners, families, kids, couples and critters.
Motivated by my passion for photography and lifelong desire to help make a difference in the world, I became a consultant with Beautycounter, a skincare and cosmetics company leading the way in the growing movement towards safer beauty, providing makeup and hair services for my portrait clients. I also support the BC SPCA to help animals in need through fundraising, volunteer photography and adoption portraits. Critters of the Earth provides my animal lover clients with artful imagery of furry friends & fauna along with uplifting and moving animal stories. Through my animal portrait work, I celebrate along with my clients the lives of our furry companions and the emotional bond we share.
I have a home studio located in Victoria, BC where I live with my quirky and creative husband Michael Chmara and boy wonder Connor Boone, along with our cute as buttons kittens Cosmo and Levi.
