It's time to pack up and move northward along the coast towards our next destination - Jesse M. Honeyman Memorial State Park just below Florence, OR.
The drive isn't long but, as with any part of highway 1, quite spectacular even though we miss a few waypoints such as the scenic drive to Charleston and Cape Arago.
After getting a coffee at one of the more ubiquitous drive-thru places that can be found all over Oregon - Dutch Brothers in North Bend, we cross over the Coos River and into the southern stretches of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The first stop is at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, where Connor sees his first whale bones!
Below the lighthouse we can see "the triangle" and so, suitably intrigued by it, decide to make our way down to Ziolkouski Beach Park. There we explore the essentially deserted squeaky sand dunes.
