What can I say? This was an amazing shoot and working with an ideal client like Jim, made it even more awesome!
Jim Perkins is the Founder and CEO of the Perkins Group and came to be me upon the referral of my good friend and colleague Levon Henderson of Novel Pictures who had worked with Jim on a corporate video for his latest venture, FairTradeWorks. I was a little intimidated at first, but upon our first meeting to scout out locations, I could tell Jim was going to be great to work with and that we'd get some really cool and versatile images images that he would be able to use for his publicity.
Here are some of my favourites including a little Q&A about our time together.
Tell me a bit about yourself...about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time.
I am originally from Wales but I've had the privilege of living in many different countries around the world and that's why my accent appears to be a fusion of a Welsh dialect with British and Australian influences.
I grew up in the construction industry as my father owned a successful company in Europe and I learned the ropes from a young age on the end of a shovel. I think the hard labour of my childhood helps me better understand my employees on a daily basis as I never assign a job that I haven't done before. Whether it's digging a ditch in the rain or pouring cement for a foundation in the snow, I've been there and can appreciate the challenges of each job.
While my companies keep me busy, I have recently enjoyed donating extra time to philanthropic causes. From the BC SPCA's Paws for Cause fundraiser to donating a $15,000 bathroom reno to a family in need - I really want to be able to help out and give back. Recently I was even sold in the Bachelor Auction at the West Coast Women's Show to the highest bidder!
Canada and specifically Vancouver has been very good to me so it's satisfying to do what I can to make a difference.
What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?
Linda is tenacious and organized. I'm so busy on a daily basis that a corporate photo shoot was the last thing I wanted to take time out for but Linda removed the stress by arranging a makeup artist and a stylist. She was efficient in her meetings and shoot times and kept me moving forward. She was also very patient at the shoot and understood my multiple phone calls and business interruptions. She ensured I was comfortable and kept me working with the lens.
To sum it up: Linda is a consummate professional.
If you could pick one favourite shot Linda took of you/for you, which one would it be and why?
Too many to chose from...Linda's shoot produced many different images that we'll be using for everything from magazine articles to corporate website biographies.
What is your philosophy or approach to life?
I believe that "opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don't recognize them". I also believe that you have to "earn everything" in this world and if you don't, you won't appreciate it.
These expressions are even on my wall at work for all employees to see on a daily basis.
What's new in your life? What's next for you?
While FairTradeWorks.biz is relatively new to the general public, it's been my baby for almost 2 years in development. I'm excited about heading east to set up our next office in Toronto and launch a new design firm next month in Vancouver. Growth is happiness for me. I love what I do and as long as that continues, I'll stay in the game.
