I had the pleasure of photographing Kathryn and her family over the past couple of years and I have to say that she is one of my most valuable friends and colleagues...if that's not already obvious! I shared a sneak peek of some of the business portraits we did together on my blog this past February and promised to share more of my favourites from our time together. I'm excited to profile her here in more detail giving you a closer look at this amazingly talented and intelligent woman as well as an inside look at her beautiful family and learn more about her life's purpose and why it is so important to always be kind and laugh a lot!
Tell me a bit about yourself...about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time?
I changed careers last year and left a Financial Planning job as a long-term employee to become a self-employed Money Coach! I am truly living my purpose. I help people break through money barriers, change their money habits and teach them new ways to spend and save money so they can achieve their dreams. I seriously love what I do and am inspired by my work every day. I love adventure and new experiences and spent a large part of my pre-child life travelling the world. Although, now I have a whole new kind of adventure with a hilarious husband and a 3 year old son that brings me a ridiculous amount of joy! Having the support of my family is the reason I can take leaps in life.
What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?
I first worked with Linda when she did our family portrait session 2 years ago. Portrait session is probably the wrong word because all we had to do was walk and play with our son and she captured the most beautiful moments. We will treasure these photographs of our sweet little 2 year old forever. So, when it came time for me to need a business portrait, Linda was the first and only person I called. I have never been comfortable in front of a camera. Linda made the whole experience so effortless. I often forgot the camera was there and she captured my natural expressions. People often see me on my website before they meet me in person and I often hear that my photo represents who I am - that is a huge compliment to Linda.
If you could pick one favourite shot Linda took of you/for you, which one would it be and why?
I don't often like photos of myself but it was hard not to with all the great shots Linda so patiently took. I love this one because it makes me smile. I’m not all made up or touched up and I look happy and relaxed - it looks like me!
What is your philosophy or approach to life?
In a nutshell: we are here for a short time so enjoy the moments; treat everyone with love and respect because kindness can change the world; forgive easily and quickly.
What's new in your life? What's next for you?
Giving back and helping others has always been important to me. In the past, I volunteered with Big Sisters and donated to various causes, but this year my plans are becoming more focused. First on the agenda is coordinating a community Suit Drive for Dress for Success Vancouver. This organization is important to me as it supports disadvantaged women returning or entering the workforce and empowers them financially. Next up is implementing a program to donate $50 per client engagement to Kiva loans. I will be selecting a campaign to help people create opportunity for themselves. Kiva provides safe, affordable access to capital to those in need and helps people create better lives for themselves and their families. Kiva works with micro-finance institutions on five continents to provide loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. I am proud to align my money with them.
