We photographed Jayne near her home in Kitsilano near the community gardens. We came upon this little garden, wooded area with these beautiful purple and white flowers which was the perfect backdrop for Jayne’s main profile picture.

Jayne was an absolute joy to work with and I wish her the very in her new practise.

Tell me a bit about yourself…about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time.

I have a rich and varied background in terms of work, education, and life experience. I particularly enjoy new challenges and often seek them out. Several years ago I changed careers and recently started a private practice as a registered clinical counselor. I am sincerely interested in people, their challenges, and their successes. I hold the belief that each of us has unique strengths that can help us through even the most challenging situations.

In my free time you will typically find me outside engaged in some activity or simply enjoying nature. Otherwise I enjoy spending time with my family and I am also I voracious reader.

What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?

I enjoyed Linda’s casual style and approach. She appeared relaxed and in turn I was able to feel comfortable.  The photos were a great addition to my website and the variety of photos and backgrounds provides me a great selection of photos for other uses, personal and work related.

If you could pick one favourite shot(s) Linda took of you/for you, which one(s) would it be and why?

If I have to choose one it would be this one. My smile is natural and I was very comfortable in that particular environment.

What is your philosophy or approach to life?

I don’t generally attach one specific philosophy to life. I think that a philosophy or approach to life often stems from intention, which may vary among the different facets of a person’s life.  As I have experienced life, I would say that although how I approach life situations has remained relatively constant, perhaps my intention and/or desired results may have changed.

What’s new in your life? What’s next for you?

As the most recent addition in my life, my counseling practice has been my focus over the last few months. I’m not sure what’s up next. Life can be unpredictable, but that’s part of the adventure.

Linzie Payne is an exceptionally talented woman.  Coming from a medical background, Linzie recently joined the real estate industry with flying colours and is now working with Sutton Group-West Coast Realty.

I knew that when she asked me to do her business portraits that she would need outstanding images that really show her confidence, approachability and professionalism.  With the help of her marketing team at Agent Makeover, we worked together to create the image that best represents Linzie and what she has to offer her clients, and here is what we came up with!  Thank you so much Linzie for your amazing testimonial and your ongoing support of my work!

We did a beautiful outdoor maternity session of Jessica and her love Erin, some super cute baby portraits of their first-born Kaitlyn, and some business portraits for her work as with Ocean Renewable Energy Group as Project Director  and the new non-profit organization she created called The BC Women in Energy Network.

Jessica was expecting their second child during the business portrait session and now has another baby girl.  Congratulations Jessica!

Tell me a bit about yourself…about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time.

My career and personal life have always revolved around a love of the outdoors, instilled in me by my parents and especially my mom.  This translated into a pretty typical “BCer” interest in the environment, and I now work in the renewable energy field.  I still try to get outside as much as possible, and also maximize time with family and friends.

What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?

Linda is a very comfortable person to be around, which is perfect for someone like me who doesn’t really like having my picture taken!  Like the majority of people I think, I’m not that comfortable with having my photo taken, but Linda makes it an easy experience.  She is easy to be around plus she helps with suggestions on how to take a good picture, without you feeling like you are being ‘directed’.  The pictures she has taken of me and my family have been wonderful to have as personal memories and captured moments, and the headshots are valuable for my career.

If you could pick one favourite shot Linda took of you/for you, which one would it be and why?

My favourite is probably the picture of my husband and I when I was pregnant with my first daughter, where we are standing in the fountain out front of the Planitarium, and we are both laughing while he holds my big belly.  That pregnancy shoot was my favourite with Linda.  I felt amazing and it was a wonderful experience with my husband.  I had such immense love for my daughter already and was great to capture that time.

What is your philosophy or approach to life?

My approach to life is I guess to try and experience as much as life and the world as I can, work to leave the planet better off when I leave than when I got here, and not to worry about the things I can’t control.

What’s new in your life? What’s next for you?

I had another daughter in the middle of April, which has been a wonderful and crazy experience.  Not sure if I’d recommend having two girls under the age of two!  I’m also in the process of getting a non-profit up and running.  It is the BC Women in Energy Network and supports the success of women working in the energy sector.  I’m very excited about getting it up and running as I have thought about the concept for a few years.  It will be wonderful to help support equality in the workplace, provide a forum for sharing ideas and encouraging young women to work in the energy industry.

Bettyanne Brownlee is now one of my new favourite clients!  She  is a corporate lawyer with over twenty years experience and came to me upon the recommendation of another favourite client, business coach Cynthia Roney.

I photographed Bettyanne at her super cool mansion on Granville, which sillily I didn’t get any photos of which I should have because it is stunning and a great location for portraits – next time!

Needless to say, Bettyanne was a doll to photograph and although a bit hesitant at first, she warmed up for me and we got some beautiful, professional shots of her that she proudly uses for her business.

I’m looking forward to future portrait sessions with Bettyanne as well as cultivating our new friendship.  Thank you and all the very best Bettyanne!

I had the opportunity to photograph her last year at Ray Lum‘s studio.  Ariane wanted some simple, clean portraits of herself that she felt really represented who she is, in the most authentic way. I’m happy to say we achieved that and she is proudly using them on her website and various marketing materials.

1. Tell me a bit about yourself…about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time.

I’m a seasoned graphic designer with a passion for communicating, the arts, culture, and technology. My husband and I are happily married for over 10 years and have lived in Canada for 5 1/2. We met in Jordan while on vacation and have never looked back! Living in The Netherlands for eight years gave us a different perspective on life together and gave me the chance to open the door to a new culture and environment. Now that we’ve made the move back to North America, my husband had his chance to adjust to a different culture and has settled well into Vancouver. Life in Vancouver compares to a comfortable sweater that we’ve owned for years.

As well, my business has both moved and grown (in clientele) from Western Europe to Vancouver. I’ve had the tremendous opportunity to work with companies and personalities of all kinds!

My business strikes a comfortable balance between creative direction, reviewing products (design, technology, and cycling-related), and attending events. These three elements of my business tie in well with networking and social media. Many of my clients have been with me for years. I also receive referrals and am grateful to introduce new clients to my services.

When not working or attending events, I spend time with my husband. We travel a lot and get out as much as we can. We’ve just returned from three weeks in Belize. Talk about a change in culture to mix things up a bit! Kayaking, photography, playing with gadgets, art, and music are favourite pastimes.

2. What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?

Our session never felt rushed or forced. Linda’s a focused pro and kept a sense of humour going throughout the day. We enjoyed chatting about music while my iPod was playing. Found out we like a lot of the same bands!

3. If you could pick one favourite shot Linda took of you/for you, which one would it be and why?

The one currently on my website. It shows a fun, improvisational version of me that’s not staged-looking.

4.  What is your philosophy or approach to life?

Never look back or compare yourself to others, live for no regrets, and never stop learning!

5   What’s new in your life? What’s next for you?

This year, I re-branded my business to include product reviews and events. These are now tied into the ariane c design brand and the combination has been working well thus far. I’m near completion of a copy editing certificate from Simon Fraser University’s downtown campus and now offer copy editing and proofreading services to clients.

Erin is a doll and an amazing champion of my work as a photographer.  Upon her recommendations, I had the amazing opportunities to photograph Mr. Kevin Newman, the national news anchor for Global Television, and ET Canada’s Celebrity Makeover with Cheryl Hickey.

Our most recent beauty portrait in July 2010 was a smash hit and I must say, one of my most favourite shoots to date.  This is my tribute and huge thank you (hugs) to Erin for her unwaivering support and our growing friendship, despite our crazy schedules!

Tell me a bit about yourself…about you, your business and/or what you like to do with your time.

I have been working in Television for over 10 years and I’m still learning something new every day. I started my career behind-the-scenes as a video editor so most of what I’ve accomplished in front of the camera has been by trial and error. I love interviewing dynamic, interesting people and because I produce my own segments I get a chance to craft the look and feel of every story.  I’m currently doing an Entertainment Feature for Global News and I’m the West Coast Correspondent for Entertainment Tonight Canada. When I’m not working I love to play outside, cook (and eat) fabulous food and spend time with friends, family and my fur baby Lenny.

What did you like best about working with Linda and how have your photos benefited you?

Linda has a wonderfully calm and caring demeanour that brings out the best in me. I am not a model and posing for the still camera makes me a little nervous, but Linda makes me feel comfortable and she makes me look good!  Her photographs were the inspiration for my website and every time I post one on Facebook I get inundated with compliments and questions.

If you could pick one favourite shot Linda took of you/for you, which one would it be and why?

That’s a tough one.  I love so many of the photos Linda has done for me – but there was a series we did recently with natural light and a green dress that really blew me away.

What is your philosophy or approach to life?

I have always tried my best to be a kind and positive person because I honestly believe that you get what you give.  I also have a real “can do” attitude that hasn’t failed me yet. Knock on wood.

What’s new in your life? What’s next for you?

In the new year I will be taking on the role of “interview instructor” at a new arts and entertainment school called The Rockstar Academy. I used to teach snowboarding at Cypress Mountain and I absolutely loved being a part of the learning process.  This gig will give me a chance help future superstars achieve their goals and I’ll be honing my own skills in the process!

On November 18, 2010 I had the privilege of photographing the Land Awards Gala Dinner hosted by the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia. It was a stellar event celebrating the merits of ‘forward-thinking people and organizations – leaders in creating sustainable communities and making B.C. a better place to live. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., one of Time magazine’s ‘Heroes for the Planet and co-author of The Riverkeepers, presented the keynote address at the awards, making it an extra special event for fans and environmentalists alike.  Several of the guests and awards’ recipients had the honour of having their portraits taken with Mr. Kennedy which I had the pleasure of taking.

Myself and co-photographer Brian Noppe seamlessly captured the essence of the evening and gratefully, the foundation’s uber talented organizer of the entire gala event, Leta Smith, expressed her thanks in a recent testimonial – ‘With her [Linda's] creative eye and dedication to covering all angles and facets of an event, the black tie 2010 Land Awards can now be remembered through her photography. The quality and assortment of photos are of the highest quality (which we are also using for web and promotional use), as was the experience working with Linda Mackie Photography.’
