I finally get to post about our other amazing road trip last summer to Washington. It was hard to top our incredible trip to the Oregon Coast, but it definitely came close!
It's the "last weekend" of the Summer and we decide to hop in the car and do a quick road trip to Northern Washington. After making it through the border in a surprisingly short time considering the traffic, we make it to our destination - the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle in a couple of hours. Parking, on the other hand, proves to be quite a challenge but about 45 minutes after starting our search, we find a spot.
There's a dinosaur exhibit and Connor insists we check out the big, animatronic beasts first so we follow the dinosaur tracks to the entrance. Beyond the gates, there lurk triceratops, tyrannosaurs, anklyosaurs among others. Connor's not too sure about getting too close to the T-Rex - it roars and is protecting its young!
We explore a little more - it's a hot day so lots of the animals are hiding in the shade.
It's hard to pass up a ride on the vintage carousel!
Once we're done exploring (and by this time the zoo's shutting down), we hop in the car and drive a little north of Seattle to Mukilteo where we've arranged accommodation at the Silver Cloud Inn - right on the water beside the ferry terminal where we'll embark on day 2 of our trip in the morning.
We have a great dinner at Arnies (just up the hill from the Silver Cloud) - the clam chowder is some of the best we've ever had!
The morning comes and it's time to catch the ferry over to Whidbey Island. It's a pretty short haul... it's also Connor's first ferry ride so he runs around taking it all in. After 15 minutes or so, it's time to hop back in the car.
