There's something really special to me about photographing dogs that is a bit difficult to put into words. The best way I can describe it is that it's kinda like a soul connection I feel while I am photographing them. It may sound corny but I 'see' them (think Avatar here ok); their soul reveals itself to me as we go along and I continue to photograph them with the hope that I can somehow capture it on film. I want so much for viewers to see it too and feel connected on an emotional and compassionate level and love them as much as I do.
Meet Bruizer, a very gentle and playful pup I had the pleasure of photographing this past weekend at Buntzen Lake in Anmore, BC. It was an absolutely stunning October Sunday afternoon, the perfect time to play in the warm sun and have a Super Soul Dog Portrait!
Bruizer is an "American Bully", a newly distinguished breed, bred for show and companionship due to their superman like bodies, large heads and amazingly shiny coats. His lineage is American pit bull terrier and Staffordshire terrier. To me, he's a very handsome, strong dog and a very loving and loyal friend to best bud James.
The lake was especially beautiful with the beaming sun shining down upon us. Bruizer had a blast in the water and romped around with a few of the other pups who came to play with us. We had a fantastic time and to be honest, I could've kept shooting until the sun went down! But alas, it is October and the water was a bit chilly so we opted to walk through the woods for a few action shots!
Although it was a colourful, warm and sunny fall afternoon, I chose this sneak peek shot of Bruizer in black and white because it really captures his strong and proud nature and shows off his beautiful shiny coat glistening in the water. More to come of this amazing dog so I'll keep you posted!
