You Were Never Behind: Financial Literacy, Menopause + the Money Conversation Every Woman Deserves to Have with Joyce Ingram

There is a particular kind of stress that doesn’t make much noise. It sits quietly in the background — the kind you carry into a financial conversation and leave feeling worse than when you arrived. The kind that keeps you from opening statements, asking questions, or even believing you deserve to understand what’s going on.

That’s exactly what Joyce Ingram helps women untangle.

Joyce is a financial educator and advisor (World Financial Group / Evolution Financial), and her work centres on one powerful truth: financial stress in women is rarely about a lack of effort — it’s almost always about a lack of education.

I sat down with Joyce for this episode of The Eloquent Entrepreneur, and what came out of that conversation is something I think a lot of women need to hear right now.

Nobody Really Taught Us

When Joyce talks about why smart, capable women feel anxious about money, she always comes back to the same place: education — or more accurately, the absence of it.

She shared it plainly:

Women are often stressed about money not because they haven’t worked hard or earned enough — but because nobody really taught them how money works.

And if you’ve ever felt embarrassed in a meeting with an advisor… or like you “should know this by now”… you’re not alone. Joyce creates a space where questions are welcome, shame gets dismantled, and learning becomes empowering instead of intimidating.

The Connection Between Menopause and Money

One of the most important parts of our conversation was the financial cost of menopause — something most women don’t consider until they’re living it.

Joyce runs a workshop called Money & Menopause, because these two topics overlap more than we’ve been taught to expect. Menopause can impact energy, focus, work capacity, career decisions, caregiving responsibilities, and overall stability — and there can be real financial consequences tied to all of it.

She also spoke to the reality of the “sandwich generation” — supporting aging parents while still supporting children — while trying to plan for the future at the same time.

Her point is simple (and compassionate): if women understand what’s coming, they can prepare. And if they’re already in the middle of it, it’s not too late to get clarity.

The Safe Space That Changes Everything

I’ve attended Joyce’s workshops, and what strikes me every time is the room.

There’s always this moment early on where someone admits something quietly — something they’ve been carrying alone — and then someone else nods. And someone else. That recognition, that “oh… it’s not just me,” is worth more than any spreadsheet.

Joyce describes her workshops as non-judgmental spaces for learning and real conversation — especially her monthly Money & Mimosas, and her deeper workshop Rewriting the Rules: Women, Worth & Wealth (limited to 12 seats, intentionally intimate).

Joyce’s Story

Joyce didn’t come into this work from a finance background. Her defining moment came years ago when she found herself in what she calls a “financial pickle” — trying to build a side business while working full time, getting into debt, and feeling the pressure impact her marriage.

That experience pushed her to learn. She got licensed, went through the full program, and then had a realization that changed everything: so much of what she was learning wasn’t being widely shared. Most Canadians didn’t have access to it. And women were carrying the cost.  So she made it her mission.

Her words: no family left behind.

What’s Coming for Canadian Women

Here’s the part that stopped me: Joyce shared that approximately $4 trillion in generational wealth is expected to transfer to women in Canada over the coming years and her question is: are women ready for it?

Not in a pressure-filled way — in an empowerment way. Because preparedness changes everything.
